MANILA, PHILIPPINES, 12th October 2009. BBDO Guerrero / Proximity Philippines, together with production partner Filmex have completed a series of three videos for the Disaster Relief campaign of the Philippine National Red Cross. The first of these entitled 'Optimism" was launched just a week after the devastating Tropical Storm Ketsana/Ondoy hit The Philippines on 26 September.
The second and third of these were released as the situation developed - with some areas remaining flooded and others now mired deep in mud. The country was also hit by a second and equally devastating Tropical Storm, Parma, during this period. The videos are designed to raise awareness and funds - particularly overseas - and to maintain focus on the situation at home. So far the videos have been used in fund-raising events with overseas Filipino groups in the US, South Africa and South East Asia.
Red Cross Governor Dennis Mendiola commented: "The two Storms have killed 600 and displaced over 800,000. As of October 8, donations have reached P61 million (US$1.3million) purely via online media. And thanks to virals such as these, as well as the huge awareness generated on social networks, we hope to continue to tap into the support of Filipinos and others around the world in our urgent efforts to reach help those affected by the Storms and their aftermath."
